This one day course (09.30 - 16.30) provides an overview into the causes of defects within masonry structures and the practical methods that can be used to repair them. Masonry defects can occur in buildings for many reasons, these can include:-
- Foundation movement, settlement and subsidence
- Thermal/moisture movement
- Lintel failure
- Overloading
- Corrosion of embedded steelwork e.g. wall ties
- Frost and chemical action
- Vibration
- Construction defects
- Defective materials
- Lack of lateral restraint
The following repair techniques, which have been developed to stabilize and repair defective masonry, will be covered in the course:-
- Remedial wall ties
- Masonry beaming
- Structural pinning
- Resin bonding
- Lateral restraint ties
