An online guide to flood resilience and recovery from the PCA

A 'Right First Time' Approach to Flood Remediation

The PCA has recognised the need for a ‘right first time’ approach to flood remediation. PCA members have a wealth of experience in areas including damp-proofing and structural waterproofing – and these professional skills lend themselves to the issues of flood recovery and resilient repair.

Following the 2007 floods some householders suffered because remedial work was carried out by contractors with little or no understanding of the effects of water in buildings. In some cases homes were repaired, then six months later the property was blighted with damp and further repairs were needed.

For flood-prone areas, the experience and skills developed by the PCA’s structural waterproofing experts when creating dry basements can be adapted to use above ground level to create houses that are resilient to water ingress.

Solutions include control of water entering a structure in the first place, as well as effective repairs that mean damp is not going to affect a building six months down the line.

This microsite is dedicated to flood resilience and recovery. It provides a guide to what PCA members can offer to achieve the best results in flood recovery, as well as water resilience in flood prone areas. Find out about the training undertaken by Association members, watch a video on the subject, and view news items, technical information and case studies so you can see the results of real flood remediation projects.
