Case Study - waterproofing project for a ground floor flat refurbishment

Structural Waterproofing Project:

Ground floor flat refurbishment, including sub floor area, West End Glasgow.

The Challange:

The owners had purchased a ground floor flat in Glasgow’s West End. They discovered a sizeable sub floor area which they decided to convert into a habitable area. The client did not want to disturb foundations, so engaged the services of a structural engineer, a structural waterproofing manufacturer (John Newton & Co) and a specialist structural waterproofing installer (Richardson & Starling).

The Solution:

The engineer designed a new raised ground floor level, using structurally designed support beams, which gave the ‘basement floor’ the required habitable eight. The structural waterproofing system was designed and installed by a specialist basement contractor incorporating a cavity drain membrane and a sump and pump drainage system.

The Result:

The once unusable sub floor void has been developed into a fantastic habitable space. This has been achieved with the vision and determination of the client and the ingenuity of the engineer, manufacturer and specialist installer.
