This qualification is for individuals involved in diagnosing problems with water entering buildings from below ground level and recommending design solutions.
A recognised industry certificate, the CSSW qualification can be taken by candidates who are already trained and experienced within the area of structural waterproofing, as well as providing a creditable qualification for those with aiming to become involved in the industry
The examination is composed of both written and oral tests. Once qualified, members may use the initials CSSW after their name to signify their status.

Two plan/photograph-based scenario questions
Technical questions on structural waterproofing and dampness
Three questions including short sub-questions – time allowed 20 mins per question
Technical questions on Health & Safety / Law
One question including short sub-questions – time allowed 20 mins
All questions must be answered
Viva Voce (Oral Examination)
Total duration 20 mins
Interview based on plans/photographs/specifications
Examinations are held over one day as follows:
09.40 – 12.00 - Written Paper
13.00 – 16.30 - Viva Voce
A certificate will be issued on passing all parts of the examination
The exam can be adapted to accommodate candidates with learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, providing advance notification is given and the candidate has undergone a professional assessment.
