Practical Aspects of Structural Waterproofing

This new one-day course (09.30 – 16.30) for Technicians has been developed for those wishing to understand more about the processes and materials used in structural waterproofing.   It aims to enhance the skills, knowledge and understanding of experienced technicians as well as providing a good foundation for those beginning a career in the building restoration industry.  Architects, estimators and building surveyors wishing to understand more about the practical elements of basement waterproofing may also find this course useful.

The following will be covered in the course:-

  • Introduction to the different types of waterproofing systems
  • Overview of the many forms of waterproofing in common use and how they are achieved
  • Selecting the right waterproofing system - examine the advantages and disadvantages of commonly utilised waterproofing systems
  • On-site preparation - theory and practical issues
  • Surface preparation cavity drain and cementitious systems
  • Application of cementitious systems - theory and practical issues
  • BS8102 - understand the importance of this document
  • Installation of drainage systems –practical information
  • Maintenance issues - drainage and system maintenance
  • Health & Safety obligations - risk assessment and safe systems of work
