Supporting National Apprenticeship Week 2023

Welcome to the start of ‘National Apprenticeship Week 2023’ (#NAW2023). At the PCA, we are big supporters of apprenticeships. Not only do we have several past and current apprentices ourselves - Jade, Amber and our newest recruit Harry - but we also help to run specialist apprenticeships programmes for some of the sectors we serve.

With it being #NAW2023, we are taking the opportunity to raise awareness of apprenticeships and the good that they do for both employee & employer!

Take this opportunity to consider apprenticeships!

Over the course of the week, either through ourselves or through news elsewhere, we are sure you will hear at some point of all the benefits regarding apprenticeships for both employee and employer. If you have ever considered apprenticeships and wanted to find out more about them, then this week, we would encourage you to act on those thoughts!

The internet is awash with information regarding apprenticeships. If it is an apprenticeship outwith the sectors the PCA serves, then we would advise you to visit the official National Apprenticeship Website. You will find a wealth of information, guidance and funding etc, but they also have a helpful team you can call or email too.

Apprenticeships really are a rewarding experience for all

Certainly, from our experience as an apprenticeship training provider, it is a very rewarding experience watching candidates grow in confidence and skills, particularly with a recognised industry qualification awarded and many now having careers with the organisation that first invested in them. We have come to know many of these apprentices and see them returning to the PCA as they look to progress their career further within that same company.

The skill shortage gap opportunity for all

For our PCA members and the wider construction industry…RIGHT NOW…one of the main benefits of apprenticeships is its contribution to addressing the skills shortage. This is a problem that will only get worse unless we are prepared to tackle the ‘skills headache’ for the future of the industry, and provide people with the opportunity to learn skills the construction sector desperately needs!

This is one of the themes and messages for National Apprenticeship Week 2023, which aims to get across to businesses the reward for providing the apprenticeship opportunities that provide individuals "Skills for Life", while also showing how you can develop a talented workforce that is equipped with future-ready skills.

We believe apprenticeships are the future...

As we said at the beginning of this new post, we are big supporters of apprenticeships and we certainly want both our PCA members and the wider construction industry to see the benefits too.

Along with ourselves embracing apprentices into our organisation, we believe that by continuing to provide and support apprenticeship programmes, firmly puts us at the forefront in helping prepare our sectors and industry for the future. We hope you agree and take the opportunity to look at apprenticeships over the course of the week and to ask the question…could this work for me?
