Coming Soon…Surveyors Hub Podcast
Your CEO Steve Hodgson was invited to a podcast interview with Marion Ellis from The Surveyors Hub a few weeks ago. We can confirm to members that this is scheduled to go live on 5th November 2020, which we will of course share in next week’s Friday email. Their podcasts are always highly informative, so we’re looking forward to hearing this one….
Many of our members will know who The Surveyors Hub is, but for those that don’t they are a collective of well-respected, experienced residential valuers and surveyors committed to supporting professional development and well-being.
Invitation to Submit Abstract for ICMB21
We are delighted to share with members that we have been invited to submit an abstract to the International Conference on Moisture in Buildings (ICMB21) event. This is another fantastic opportunity for your Association to represent you, our members, in this arena and showcase some of the great work that we have launched recently, including our NEW Building Moisture Index (BMI) Reporting Tool.
This event will be the first of a biannual series, organised by the UK Centre for Moisture in Buildings (UKCMB), and takes place online on 28th-29th June 2021. Whilst it is some way off yet, we will keep members informed as we progress through the process.

Are your Technicians NVQ Qualified in Damp & Timber?
Are you maximising the skills of your technicians? Why not enrol them onto our Specialist Apprenticeship Programme? There are numerous benefits for the employer, not least in filling those skill gaps and improving staff retention. The opportunity to ‘earn while you learn’ and gain both a recognised qualification and valuable industry experience are a few of the benefits for the apprentice.
And what’s more, our next intake date means your technicians can start this year: 7th – 10th December 2020!

Amenity Forum’s Conference – Key Message!
Sustainability was the central theme at The Amenity Forum’s first on-line conference recently and this is also important for our PCA members on two levels:
Firstly, the invasive weed control sector needs to be clear and transparent about how, when, and why we select and use herbicides and achieve maximum effect for minimum dose.
Secondly, we need to make sure our voice is heard during the Government’s National Action Plan for Pesticides review. We encourage everyone to help ensure future policy is balanced and the professionalism of our members is recognised and considered.

Are you ready for an HSE Safety Spot Check?
Members are reminded that the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) is collaborating with local authorities and checking businesses to make sure they are Covid-secure.
Sefton for example, is part of the Liverpool City Region and in the highest lockdown tier. HSE inspectors and Sefton Council’s environmental health officers have been conducting spot checks and inspections on a number of construction sites to check they are following Government guidelines.
We urge members to ensure that your workplace is safe as we understand that collaboration between other local authorities and HSE continues across the country. More information can be accessed via the button below.

Alternative Repair Strategies for Traditional Buildings
Date: 1st December 2020

Aimed at surveyors who work on traditional buildings, defined as solid-walled properties pre-dating around 1939. This course will be of benefit to anyone in the preservation industry that is interested in understanding how traditional buildings differ in their construction, and how they require the use of repair strategies that are sympathetic and complimentary to the original structure.
