The need to uphold the standards of membership

The PCA has good members who willingly embrace and promote the rules of membership, which are set out and agreed by all involved. The PCA’s Executive Team has a duty to uphold the standards, but occasionally a member seems either incapable or unwilling to abide by the rules and has to be removed from the Association….

Sadly this was the case last week. To find out more about who that PCA member was and to read PCA’s CEO’s thoughts on it, click on the button below.

Presenting new insights

‘Can Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) tackle surface condensation?’ This question certainly sparked some great discussion at the last PCA Residential Ventilation Group (RVG) meeting as we continue to invest in research and development. PCA members know that indoor air quality may be greatly improved with PIV and given the scarce number of technical documents and scientific evidence on the efficacy of PIV systems, Head of PCA Research Paula Lopez-Arce is investigating this further.

Paula will present some new insights and constructive results of monitoring buildings with data loggers, and data processed through the new ‘Building Moisture Index’ (BMI) system to the scientific community in the coming weeks.

We will keep you informed of the progress, but in the meantime, please contact Paula ([email protected]) if you have any comments or scientific evidence that you would like to share.

Technical Document Library Updates

The Technical Document Library on the PCA website has been updated recently with the addition of two new guidance documents as follows:

  • Japanese Knotweed Site Survey Reports & Management Plans
  • Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) Systems – Issue 3 (updated)

These documents and the full extensive library is available for you to access. You can readily download the documents you need to adhere to industry standards and best practice. To view, simply click on the button below.

Building materials in short supply

PCA Members and many propert/construction professionals alike may have read about the ongoing issues with the shortage of building materials and that levels of demand are unprecedented both in the UK and globally. New rules for transporting goods has intensified the problem and the Office for National Statistics has also indicated a price rise of around 7-8% for building materials and other items such as timber could double in price!

This will be affecting many to a certain degree and has sparked a statement from the Builders Merchants Federation and Construction Products Association. To read more about what they have to say, you can click on the button below….

PR coverage across Invasive Species Week

We had an explosive amount of press coverage throughout Invasive Species Week in the following publications:

Eastwood & Kimberley Advertiser, Hucknall Dispatch, The Shields Gazette, Harrow Times – Hillingdon & Uxbridge Times Bureau The Sentinel (Stoke).

Whilst many of these publications are local press, the opportunity to create awareness and educate homeowners on invasive species was fully embraced by the press which is pleasing to see.

Level 4 NVQ: Verification of Ground Gas Protection Systems

The PCA has been the administrator of the Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Verification of Ground Gas Protection Systems qualification since 2018. We worked hard to ensure that by achieving this qualification, verifiers could apply for a relevant CSCS card displaying their sector of work where previously this was not possible. For contractor members this is something to be aware of when using verifiers.

If you are looking to expand your professional development, gain a relevant qualification or just need further information, contact Jade Stocker today to talk through your options on [email protected] / 01480 400000.
