The Autumn Equinox and Japanese knotweed

For many of us, the Autumn equinox is the first reminder of the winter months ahead. As our PCA invasive weed members know, winter is a time of little or no ‘action’ as far as Japanese knotweed growth is concerned. But can we do some useful things between this equinox and the next one in March? Well, according to PCA’s Technical Manager Peter Fitzsimons, yes we can…as he discusses in his latest blog…

Retrofit Internal Wall Insulation

The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) recently issed new guidance this week; ‘Retrofit Internal Wall Insulation: Guide to Best Practice’.

The Property Care Association has been vocal on poorly designed and installed retrofit. As we strive for energy efficiency in buildings, the issue of dampness is likely to be more commonplace and for the Government to stipulate the need for ‘qualified specialists’ to undertake these damp control works, is very much welcomed.

PCA’s Technical Manager touches on these issues which members can read by clicking on the button below…

1 week to go until our next webinar!

**1 WEEK TO GO!** Join us and John Naylor from GGS Ltd on Thursday 30th September (9-10am), as he raises awareness and shares his advice on radon gases and the considerations we need to give for both existing and new buildings.

Whether you are involved with new residential properties, or adapting/converting existing dwellings, this is a considerable problem to be aware of…. To find out more and to register, members can click on the button below.

A Plant Biosecurity Strategy for Great Britain

For our Invasive Weed members, a new consultation has been started by the UK Government/Defra on their Plant Biosecurity Strategy. This consultation is focussed on plant disease prevention in native plant communities and in/on agricultural/horticultural crops.

We recommend our invasive weed members read the main consultation document (via the button below) and consider responding if you think it relevant to your business. Many if not all the principles of ‘biosecurity’ they consider for insects and bacteria/fungi etc., are the same for invasive weeds currently on our ‘watch list’ (the Species of concern under EU IAS Regulations not already in Schedule 9). The consultation is open until November 22nd.

Work Right Campaign

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) is visiting construction sites throughout October 2021 to check that appropriate measures are in place to protect workers’ lung health from exposure to dust. Dust can kill which is why this year HSE is focussing on respiratory risks and occupational lung disease.

PCA members and other construction employers have a legal responsibility to protect the health of their workers. To find out more, members can click on the button below.
