The proposed revision of BS 8102

Many of you will have seen that London was once again underwater following more flooding earlier this week, which affected many travel services across the capital.

With BS 8102 undergoing a review, PCA’s Technical Manager James Berry shares some of the changes in the proposed revision which is currently out for consultation. Are we seeing a change in mindset when it comes to flooding and waterproofing design…?

PCA Awards 2021

In light of all the challenges our PCA members face (especially regarding skills shortages), investing in your staff with training and development has never been more important. The PCA continues to promote ongoing investment and celebrates those members who have done well and work hard.

Whilst we have not held our Best Practice Awards for 2021, we very much look forward to announcing the 2021 PCA Award Winners for Contractor of the Year and Student of the Year.

Watch this space next week for the announcement….

Sprayed Foam Insulation – New webpage

Following the release of Position Statements last week agreed by the sprayed foam insulation working group, the ripple effect from the release has been noticed with plenty of engagement, questions and requests for comment on this subject.

The PCA has since created a dedicated webpage in order to provide a useable and informative repository whereby all documents and guidance can be easily located. The publication of the the position statements was the first step for the working group and as we mentioned last week, with guidance documents to follow.

You can view the webpage and the position statements in the meantime by clicking on the button below.

Amenity Forum meeting

We were very pleased to be able to attend the first face-to-face meeting of the Amenity Forum, held in Stratford-upon-Avon last Thursday. The meeting illustrated the challenges faced by the forum as it tries to influence legislation and run an accreditation scheme, whilst disseminating emerging threats and opportunities on a very limited budget.

As the current Chairman approaches the end of his tenure the Forum are looking at making a few important constitutional changes. Though the departure of John Moverley from the role will be great loss to the Forum and its members, the opportunity to modernise the corporate structures should be embraced.

We will ensure PCA members are kept informed of the work of the Amenity Forum and the role and value of the Amenity Standard.
