National Maintenance Week

Many of our PCA members will be aware that National Maintenance Week is coming up. For those who may have missed any comms around this event and therefore unsure of the date, this takes place from 19th-26th November 2021. This event, organised by SPAB (The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings) is all about reminding homeowners of the simple and straightforward steps they can take during the months ahead to ensure their property is protected over the winter. The PCA will be taking the opportunity to post helpful information and advice across our social media channels throughout the week...so keep an eye out. PCA Team expands

This week sees two new members of the team join the Association. Harry Webb is our new Apprentice and joins Jade, Jo and Amber in the Training team. Andy and Lisa welcome Emily Fuller as our newest Marketing Executive to the Marketing team. At a time when we face a skills shortage across the industry, we are delighted to again be in a position to offer another apprenticeship and start Harry off on his future career. Similarly, with our marketing team and with Emily now onboard, we hope to further improve the voice of your Association and increase the opportunities for PCA members.

PCA attends RPSA Conference

The National Space Centre in Leicester provided the backdrop for the event hosted by 120 surveyors. Attendees were treated to some great speakers and a session in the incredible 360 degree planetarium. The PCA took a trade display at the event in order to promote members and engage with a room full of practicing residential surveyors. What we are very pleased to report, is that the recognition of the Association and the service provided by PCA members is now pretty much universal - our CEO didn’t have to explain what or who we are to anyone. Our recent collaboration on the impacts and implications of sprayed foam insulation was very constructive and our interactions with this rapidly expanding organisation has been effective and very professional. We hope they maintain their recent momentum and become increasingly influential.

Is rising damp a myth?

Some may have seen the latest YouTube video from Skill Builder's Roger Bisby: 'Is rising damp a myth? Roger's Biggest Rant!'. For those who have yet to watch it, it has gathered quite the audience since it aired on Monday and is drawing attention to the issue that we, and PCA members are all to aware of - rising damp DOES exist. We are sure that you will relate to his frustration on this subject too. To view the video simply click on the button below...

COP26 - New Global Biodiversity Standard

A global policy regarding invasive weeds doesn’t come along that often so we thought we should draw your attention to one that was announced at COP26 this week. In relation to the need to increase forest planting and protection (carbon capture and storage) it was recognised that invasive species control is essential to achieve those aims without harming local environments. This may be specific to Forestry but could also be said to be relevant to any vegetation management strategy, so we hope you will find it a useful reference.
