The future development & progress with the Joint Methodology

When asked to contribute to a meeting that has been called by The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) to discuss the future development and adoption of the joint methodology for damp diagnostics in historic buildings, we didn’t hesitate.

Further promotion & adoption of the methodology

The meeting took place on Friday 25th June. It was constructive, well-mannered and purposeful. The methodology that was originally developed as a three way partnership between PCA, RICS and Historic England was very well received. Those present felt that only minor improvements to the work were desirable and that they were all keen to back the further promotion and adoption of the principles that are enshrined in the methodology.

RICS also indicated that they wish to move forward with the adoption of the methodology, but they face a number of challenges before this can happen in a meaningful way.

Importance of the methodology is set to grow

We were very pleased to be able to report to those present that the PCA had worked hard to promote and publicise the methodology and had created information flows that allow members to become familiar with the document.

The level of distribution and influence the draft methodology has had, was surprising. Particularly as the PCA has been the only organisation of the three originators to have published the document. Though we anticipate that work around this project will move slowly it seems that the importance of the work is set to grow.
