Structural waterproofing apprenticeship
As part of our development of specialist apprenticeships, our structural waterproofing apprenticeship has been designed to provide a formal, structured programme of training covering every aspect of structural waterproofing of buildings over a 18 month period.
Who is the apprenticeship for?
The apprenticeship is designed for new entrants into the structural waterproofing sector and individuals from other construction related industries who want to develop and expand their knowledge of the specialist techniques of structural waterproofing.
It is open to both PCA members and non members as well as the wider specialist construction industry. Apprentices can have some or no previous experience in the industry and there is no minimum or maximum age*.
It is our aim of the apprenticeship to develop each individual to a qualified level acceptable to the structural waterproofing sector and to provide these individuals with a career path within the industry.
More about the structural waterproofing apprenticeship programme
The apprenticeship is designed to be delivered in a modularised manner by a mix of training within the PCA Training Centre followed by supervised “on-the-job” training at employer level with an end assessment.
The 24 days of off-site classroom and practical training will be delivered over the first 12 months with the on-site assessment taking place within the last 6 months. On achievement, apprentices will be issued with a Level 2 NVQ in Sub-Structure Work Occupations (Structural Waterproofing).
Over the course of the apprenticeship programme the apprentices will cover a selection of subjects including:
- a background into structural waterproofing
- the preparation and application of all forms of structural waterproofing
- handling of materials and tools
- legislation and health & safety in the workplace
- …and much, much more
The first three weeks will be held at the PCA Practical Training Centre in four/five day blocks and the remaining training will be delivered at other venues.

Benefits for employers and apprentices
For employers, some of the benefits include filling skills gaps, increasing productivity and improving staff retention.
For apprentices however, along with the industry qualification, you will gain valuable practical training with on going support while learning to work within a professional team and broadening your knowledge.
