Examination - Legal, Health & Safety CSDB/ CSTDB/ CSSW

The legal, health & safety examination is a requirement for the following qualifications: 

  • Certificated Surveyor of Timber & Dampness in Buildings (CSTDB)
  • Certificated Surveyor of Dampness in Buildings (CSDB)
  • Certificated Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing (CSSW)

Please note: to achieve CSTDB ot CSDB status, you will have to also pass the related Damp Exam and Timber exam. To achieve the CSSW qualification candidates must also pass the CSSW Exam.

How is the Legal, Health & Safety exam structured?

The Legal Health & Safety exam consists of a 2 hour written exam

  • 9:00am – 11:00am - Written paper

How do I get qualified?

The Legal, Health & Safety exam is required to achieve the Certificated Surveyor of Dampness in Buildings (CSDB), Certificated Surveyor of Timber & Dampness in Buildings (CSTDB) and Certificated Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing (CSSW) qualifications

To achieve the Certificated Surveyor of Dampness in Buildings (CSDB) qualification you are required to pass the below modules:

  • Legal and Health & Safety
  • Condensation & Damp

To achieve the Certificated Surveyor of Timber & Dampness in Buildings (CSTDB) qualification you are required to pass the below modules:

  • Legal and Health & Safety
  • Condensation & Damp
  • Timber module

To achieve the Certificated Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing (CSSW) qualification you are required to pass the below modules:

  • Legal and Health & Safety
  • CSSW

The Awarding Body for the Built Environment (ABBE)

The PCA are an approved centre with ABBE, this is where they audit all of the exams associated with the CSTDB/CSDB/CSSW qualifications. 

Candidates successfully passing the CSTDB/CSDB/CSSW examinations from 2018/2019 onwards will be awarded the ‘ABBE/PCA Level 3 Certificated Surveyor of Timber and Dampness in Buildings / ABBE/PCA Level 3 Certificated Surveyor of Dampness in Buildings’/ ABBE/PCA Level 3 Certificated Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing through ABBE.

Along with the rigor and professionalism of the PCA examination process, this means the Legal, Health & Safety exam, and all associated CSTDB/ CSDB/ CSSW exams will be independently verified by UK leading award organisation within the construction industry!

ABBE charge a registration fee per qualification of £50 +VAT. This one-off fee will be applied to the invoice for all those individuals sitting the CSTDB/CSDB examinations.
