A Case Study on Spanish Timber Buildings
Our very own Steve Hodgson was invited to look over a group of very unique and interesting timber buildings in Spain earlier this year. Whilst this was initially written to be shared as an article of interest on social media, we’re sure members will agree that this is a fascinating case study and as Steve says: “The simple genius of these buildings that use local materials in a way that delivers form and function as well as durability and aesthetic pleasure, is a total joy – even for a gnarly old sod like me!”

Ventilation and Approved Document F
The PCA appreciates that provision of adequate ventilation is fundamental to providing a healthy indoor environment. The current Approved Document F gives guidance in relation to the provision of Ventilation in new and existing “Dwellings” and “Buildings other than Dwellings”. Whilst in the main, the current Approved Document F gives clear guidance on what ventilation measures may be provided in new build Dwellings, the guidance on existing buildings is less clear cut.

Skillset Shortage – Preparing for the Future!
The PCA understands the importance of providing appropriate training to all of those within the specialist damp and timber industry. By addressing the predicted skillset shortage, a Damp & Timber Apprenticeship can be the first step on a specialist path to a career in the preservation industry!
