Damp & Timber Apprenticeship

Our damp & timber apprenticeship has been designed to take a company employee/apprentice who is working in the damp, timber and building preservation sector, through the award of the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2 Diploma in ‘Insulation and Building Treatments (Wood Preserving and Damp-proofing)’ Qualification.

Open to both PCA members and non-members alike, it is structured to be delivered in a modularised manner by a mix of formal instruction “off-the-job” training, followed by supervised “on-the-job” training. The aim being to provide fundamental training, support and recognition to apprentices and their employers.

Structure of the Damp & Timber Apprenticeship

The damp & timber apprenticeship is delivered over a period of 18 months, with the programme divided into two main sections:

Training

Over the first 12 months, all apprenticeship training is delivered at our Practical Training Centre which is specifically kitted out for hands-on training. Apprentices visit us 5 times over the first 12 months in 4-day blocks. Within this time, we will deliver the below content (see section: 'what the damp & timber apprenticeship covers) through a mixture of theory and practical training.

Assessment

Once all apprenticeship training has been completed, our assigned assessor will contact your company to start the assessment process and arrange a visit to the candidate/apprentice. We allocate 6 months for the assessment process to be completed.

  • CITB pay the PCA direct at point of induction
    • The PCA will only charge you £1200 +VAT for your space on the apprenticeship at point of registration.
  • As your candidate completes certain elements of the course, the PCA registers this with CITB and CITB will pay your company directly for the learners attendance
    • This will be paid to you in £30, £70 or £120 blocks depending on the unit completed. This will total around £500 worth of funding.
  • Once you have received the candidates NVQ certificate you will be able to claim for a further £600.
    • CITB pays this directly into your bank account.

    • The employer is required to pay the first £30 worth of costs per week/per apprentice.
  • CITB will pay for 80% of the costs toward accommodation
    • All bookings are carried out by CITB as and when requested by the employer.

+ Skills and Training Fund:

Additionally, you can also claim for further funding which would fully subsidise the cost of the apprentice programme.
