The Invasive Invasion - are our homes being overtaken?

The invasive invasion - Are our homes being overtaken?

Are we the problem?  Are humans the ones causing the invasive invasion into our gardens and environments that sometimes impacts our buildings/homes?

With recent statistics showing that 50% of plants in Britain are now non-native, how many of these non-native plants have the potential to become "invasive weeds" affecting our built environment? Bearing in mind not all plants have the capacity to affect our homes or amenity enjoyment, but which plants are we introducing with the largest detrimental effects? For surveying, property or land/garden based professionals, what should we be considering when we come across them?

To find out the answers and to learn more, click on the video and watch PCA's Daniel Docking raise awareness, offers insight and share his advice on the impact of some of these invasive species.

What you will learn from the webinar?

  • How invasive plants have changed the face of Britain’s native flora. How has it come to this?
  • Learn how these plants could affect structural or hard landscape features around homes and buildings and what surveyors & property professionals need to consider
  • Understand the wider environmental impact
  • Are humans the problem? How these plants are being introduced into homes & gardens – garden centres, large scale landscaping plans
  • The impact and success of control measures so far...

Benefits - Why you should watch the webinar

  • Up-to-date knowledge on current and upcoming invasive problem plants
  • Guidance for professionals to consider and how it may impact what you report on to your clients
  • Understand the impact on the environment if these plants spread – rivers, streams, woodlands
  • How we can all battle the spread of invasive plants. Knowledge on combatting invasive plant environments by introducing a wider array of native flora
  • Help, guidance, and advice not only to benefit yourself, but your colleagues, customers and clients
  • Straightforward online learning while sitting at your desk

About the presenter – Daniel Docking

Daniel joined the PCA team in 2022 with a wealth of practical experience and knowledge, gained by working within the invasive weeds sector as a remediation professional. Daniel has been part of a variety of remediation projects from large scale infrastructure, to small domestic properties where he undertook surveys, herbicide treatments and excavations for a variety of invasive species. Daniel has gained several key qualifications including: CSJK for surveying, SSSTS for excavations and PA1, PA2 and PA6W for herbicide treatments. Daniel is an advocate for safe practices within the industry, especially around the use of herbicides, the growing concern of how they affect users, the environment and biodiversity.
