Hodgson View: TrustMark Scheme Operators Meeting

Hodgson View: TrustMark Scheme Operators Meeting

We attended a virtual TrustMark scheme operators meeting last week to hear about the latest developments, initiatives and advances made by the scheme over recent months. The TrustMark logo is available to all contractor members of the PCA (other than ground gas protection).

Many will know that PCA has been involved with the scheme from its conception and as your CEO, I have done two terms as an elected member of its Board. Though it has struggled to find its place in a world full of the likes of Checkatrade, Rated People and TrustATrader etc, we have stuck with it, absorbed the cost and taken benefit from the member search facility offered by the only “Government endorsed” scheme out there.

Has Trustmark lost its original focus?

Time moves on and TrustMark has, through its endeavours, found itself central to the Government’s desire to achieve its energy targets for domestic properties.

Trustmark has and administers a “data warehouse” for registering retrofit projects, a consumer protection role and is mandated where government grants are to be used to fund energy saving measures through the Green Homes Grant Scheme. It also has its eyes on the enormous volumes of Government money and private finance that will be spent on energy saving measures for decades to come.

PCA continues to work with TrustMark

The scheme has certainly found a purpose. Our concern is that its priorities are now quite some way from the 10,000 contractors registered to the scheme before it found its new groove.

We will continue to work with and support TrustMark for the current year, but will also try and get them to understand that they must work as hard for us as they do for the Government and the emerging retrofit industry if they want to keep us onboard.
