Update to BS8102 - finally published!

Many of our PCA members and wider construction professionals will be aware that the much-anticipated revision of BS 8102 was released earlier this week. The revision is generally considered an “evolution not a revolution”, with most of the changes being inline with best practice already set out by your Association. To see our perception of this update and an overview of the changes, PCA's Technical Manager James Berry has produced a summary document. Members can view this via the button below. Incidentally, our next live webinar focuses on this topic too, titled 'New BS8102 Update – Does this change our view of waterproofing?', which you can read more about further down in this email...

RICS Guidance - launched, now what?

The launch of the new RICS Guidance Note 'Japanese knotweed and residential property' went very smoothly on 23rd March. In fact, there seems to have been little or no news circulating since its implementation. Perhaps no news is good news? We’d be keen to hear from our PCA invasive weed members how the new Management Categories are affecting them day-to-day (if at all). How well has it been received by lenders and valuers? If you are a PCA Member then please do get in-touch and share your thoughts and experiences. Contact PCA's Technical manager Peter Fitzsimons on 01480 400000 or email [email protected]

Waterproofing Survey - an update

For those members who have taken the time to assist PCA member James Hockey with completing the short questionnaire we shared on his behalf a few weeks ago, a big thank you. These responses will help James with his article on the current mindset of those that design waterproofing in below ground structures for the highly regarded Journal of Building Survey, Appraisal & Valuation. To date, he's had 43 responses and can see scope to identify trends within industry. James plans to publicly release the (anonymous) raw information so that PCA members (& anyone else) can review and use as they so wish. Hopefully there will be good information for us all to digest and share with relevant others too. If any of our members  would still like to contribute, please contact your Association directly and ask for James Berry who will happily share the link with you.

Next LIVE webinar

Our NEXT LIVE Webinar is now on our website. This time we switch our focus to structural waterproofing as we take a look at the NEW BS8102  guidance for the Protection of below ground structures against water ingress. What exactly are the updates and what has changed? What impact will the updates and changes have on design choices and waterproofing strategies moving forward? Will this updated guidance change our view to waterproofing? To find out the answers and to learn much more, join us and PCA Trainer Michael Earle, on Thursday 28th April 2022 from 9-10am.

Update to PPE regulations

A reminder to all from the Health & safety Executive (HSE) that on 6th April 2022 the Personal Protective Equipment at Work (Amendment) Regulations 2022 (PPER 2022) come into force and amend the 1992 Regulations (PPER 1992). PCA Members need to ensure that there is no difference in the way PPE is provided to your workers, as defined by PPER 2022. This means assessing the risk and ensuring suitable PPE is provided, when needed, to all people that fall under the definition of worker. Members can find out more by clicking on the button below.
