Structure of our Bamboos & other Invasive Grasses training

The course is divided into two modules and is taught through a variety of live online sessions, recorded videos and reading materials. We believe this method of delivery provides a structured learning plan to you in a step-by-step format.

If you have previously completed Module 0, or our face-to-face Management of Japanese knotweed training course, it is not mandatory for you to undertake Module 0 again.

Module 0 - Management of Invasive Plants
  • Invasive Plants: native and non-native, legislation and environment
  • Legislation: control, herbicide treatment and disposal of plants
  • Site Biosecurity: pathways for spread, prevention and site monitoring
  • Site Inspection, Risk Assessment and Monitoring: site investigation, risk assessment, equipment and mapping
  • Control Options: integrated pest management (IPM), revegetation and habitat restoration
  • Herbicide Use: categories of herbicide, approvals and regulation
  • Waste management: The Law, storing, clearing, disposing & incinerating invasive plant material, onsite burial and stockpiles
  • Reports and Reporting: site assessment, management plans and reports
  • Quotes, Warranties, Insurance and Bonds: requirements for providing quotes and guarantees
Module 2 - Bamboos & other Invasive Grasses
  • Identification, Biology and Ecology: identifying and differentiating the most commonly found Bamboos
  • Impacts and Risks: identifying risks within the built environment and escaping into the wild
  • Control Options: pros and cons of control methods, issues with containment and herbicide choice
  • Real World Considerations: determining best control options for different scenarios, plant condition and application methods, client resistance and expectations
  • Introduction to Developing an Invasive Weed Management Plan: correct identification and other factors to consider
  • Developing an Invasive Weed Management Plan: case study: group exercise to identify species, best control options and producing a management plan
