PCA Research Published in International Journal

Congratulations to our very own Dr Paula Lopez-Arce & the wider team within our Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) who this week had their scientific research paper published within the highly accredited international publication, ‘Building Simulation’. The paper: “Building moisture diagnosis: processing, assessing and representation of environmental data for root cause analysis of mould growth” has been 2 years in the making and is the building block for research of a prototype diagnostic tool to help assess damp and mould issues in the future and reduce indoor moisture in UK dwellings.

This research and prototype development has not been the result of any kind of grant or investment. This research was wholly funded by you, our members, your money, your time and investment. As your Association we are proud of the support you have given to help fund scientific developments like this!

We previously communicated with members that software based on this research is being developed in collaboration with UCL Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. We are in the final stages of testing this software, which will soon be available for members to try. In the meantime, if you want to know more please get in touch with Paula on [email protected] or to view the article, click on the button below.

Q&A Session: Life of a Newly Qualified Surveyor

Damp & timber exams are easy…RIGHT?!?  Nothing to it…just a 3 day training course and a couple of tick boxes for exams…RIGHT?!? Its criticism we do hear from time to time and for all those that have put in the time, dedication and hard work to get qualified…its rather insulting! But the question remains and it’s one of the most common questions asked by students and those interested in courses/exams: “what exactly is involved and what can I expect?”

Well, for all the junior surveyors out there looking to get qualified, or the employers looking to gain some insight into what is involved and the level of dedication needed…this is an article you want to be reading and sharing!

Click on the button below and take a peek into the qualification journey of Richard Hall from the Cook Group who shares his personal motivation behind getting qualified in this Q&A session and the process and journey he went through…

TrustMark & the Green Homes Grant Scheme

Some good news regarding the ‘Government’s Green Homes Grant Scheme’. We are pleased to see TrustMark are effectively going to be the gatekeepers of the scheme. As one of the founder members of TrustMark, we are happy to see a degree of professional quality control regarding the companies/tradespeople that will be carrying out works on/within properties and offering a degree of protection for consumers.

More to follow about this next week however, in the meantime, you can find out more about TrustMark’s involvement by clicking on the button below.

Consideration of a Mentoring Surgery

At your Association, we have been considering the idea of putting together online business mentoring sessions using successful business leaders within property care, to try and further help and assist all our PCA members through these continuing tough times. However, is it actually of interest to you? Is it something you would embrace and is it something you would like from your Association?

We are very keen to hear from you. If it does sound interesting and is something you would possibly take advantage of, then we would love to hear from you. To let us know, please get in touch with Andy Ferguson on 01480 400721 or email him at [email protected].

3 Weeks until our NEXT CPD Webinar

Are basement waterproofing designers correctly specifying Type B watertight concrete? and what can you do to protect your reputation and waterproof design? These are some of the questions Ben Hickman will be discussing in our next webinar, ‘Watertight Concrete’ on Thursday 27th August 2020 from 9-10am.

Following on from your Association’s very first webinar on ‘Avoiding Failures in Podium Deck Waterproofing‘, we welcome Ben Hickman back for this next webinar focusing on issues such as what class of watertightness do we need for basement concrete while learning more about crack widths, waterproofing additives and repair.
