Could the joint methodology be gaining traction again?

It has been a while since we spoke about the joint methodology for the “Investigation of Moisture and its Effects in Traditional Buildings” that came from a collaboration with RICS and Historic England back in 2019. The PCA published and promoted the document but have been disappointed with the slow traction from the other parties involved. The news is that RICS did raise it at their conference recently. Could this signal the start of the process that will see adoption of this very achievable standard…?

Investing in your Association’s future

With what seems to be a busy (& hopefully prosperous) time for many PCA members and tradespeople alike, equally, it has been a very successful and busy couple of months here at PCA Comms HQ. We are now beginning to get back to pre-lockdown levels of marketing & comms investment and continuing to invest in the future of your Association.

Along with the continuous development of our online trainingthe big news is that we are now progressing forward with our new website. This is a significant investment towards a new digital centerpiece that for our PCA members, will include a NEW and significantly improved members area.

As we develop our website further, there will be more news to come. Suffice to say, we are continuing to invest our Association in other ways and, as always, looking ahead to help promote you and all the good stuff our members do!

Next week is Invasive Species Week

It’s ‘Invasive Species Week’ this Monday (24th May). To help promote awareness, best practice and how to best deal with invasive weed related problems, we recently launched a NEW ‘Invasive Weed Info Hub’ that we encourage ALL to ‘check out’!

There is a schedule of events running next week with the inclusion of a NEW CPD video hub to promote continued learning, that also includes BASIS Award points for each of the CPD recordings.

We will be sharing messages and helpful content across our social channels throughout the week, but in the meantime, check out the NEW Hub by clicking on the button below,…

NHBC Conversion Standards review

We have been aware that the National House Building Council (NHBC) standards that cover damp issues and timber preservation (during the conversion of existing buildings to residential) have lagged behind what our PCA members might consider ‘best practice’ for some time now.

It was great to get the call from our friends at NHBC informing us that the conversion standard is now the subject of a review and that we might be able to assist in some small way. It pleases us to share with with all, that despite a few delays, this work is now underway.

The PCA will assist wherever we can and look forward to helping disseminate the revised standard when it is published.

Next Webinar during Invasive Species Week

Just 1 week to go until our next LIVE broadcast as PCA Invasive Weed Group Member Jim Glaister presents “How invasive weeds can impact the urban environment”. This webinar forms part of our events for Invasive Species Week.

Join Jim as he separates the myths from the reality of invasive weeds, and addresses how to head off future problems before they become insurmountable. This is an ideal webinar for you to share with your customers and clients, giving them more of an insight into these invasive urban menaces and to show them why your PCA membership matters!

Guidance & support for returning to the workplace

Coming back to work after time away during the pandemic may be difficult for some people and may need additional time and support to get back to pre-pandemic performance. The Health & safety Executive (HSE) has produced guidance on returning to work which can help you talk to your workers and provide the right support.
